Leneva Park stallion Royal Meeting has made a significant impression with his first foals hitting public auctions this season with an absolute highlight colt returning a massive result for Queensland vendor Silverstream on the Gold Coast on Friday.
Lot 345 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale was the brown colt by Royal Meeting from the Canny Lad mare Mistress McDowell, a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner He's No Pie Eater from the family of influential sires Redoute's Choice and Umatilla.
A head turner from day one of inspections, the colt realised $160,000 to the bid of Dean Harvey's Baystone Farm - more than 14 - times Royal Meeting's service fee!
"He was an absolute belter, one of the best Royal Meeting colts I have seen and certainly the best offered publicly so far this year," said Leneva Stallions Operations Manager Brian Byrnes.
"He has all the strengths of his sire, a great head, good leg, a powerful hindquarter and fantastic movement. Dean (Harvey) is a great judge so for him to show that sort of faith in the colt and in our stallion is a real show of strength for what we are doing with this stallion."
Six Royal Meeting weanlings have been sold so far this season at an average of $64,900, presenting a brilliant trade opportunity for breeders and traders in 2022.
"We will announce a service fee for 2022 in coming days in consultation with Aquis, but he will certainly represent enormous value again this season - he provides a real physical upgrade for his mares, he's a no brainer in my opinion," said Byrnes.
Royal Meeting covered 104 mares in 2021, a significant increase from 89 mares in his first season, and an increase on 104 is expected again in 2022.
