LENEVA HOMEBRED IS VOBIS HORSE OF THE YEAR

Leneva Park is thrilled to announce that homebred King's Consort has been crowned VOBIS Racehorse of the Year for season 2021/22.

Bred by our Longwood Operations Manager Sarah Beaumont and her partner Joel Walton, King's Consort was offered in the Leneva Park draft at the 2021 Adelaide Magic Millions Sale where he realised $32,000 to the bid of Anthony Freedman.

The son of Ilovethiscity landed his biggest success when he claimed the $1million The Showdown at Caulfield in autumn, charging home to land the feature race for Mark Zahra.

Leneva Park General Manager Michael Sharkie attended the awards night at the Emerald Hotel in South Melbourne to receive the trophy on behalf of Sarah and Joel.

"What a great little story this is," said Sharkie.

"The mare (Peckish) would have to be the worst ever bred progeny of Snitzel. I think it was a bit flukey but by sending the mare to Ilovethiscity Sarah and Joel duplicated the maternal line Heart Of Market - the dam of Marscay and the grand-dam of Kenfair - line breeding perves will be pointing to that as the source of his talent."

"For the first horse to have raced off our farm to win a million dollar race, it's a special sort of thrill."
